ITINERARY

DAY 1

8:30am
• Great Orme Road. – A drive round the great orme one way scenic road. The longest of its kind in the uk with spectacular cliffs, wildlife and views out to the irish sea and Anglesey
• Conwy Town & Castle – – Here we will do the ancient castle tour, visit the smallest house in Britain, walk the castle walls, stroll along the Conwy estuary, see some old tudor houses and view some traditional welsh art and craft shops
• Nant ffrancon pass & Llyn Owgain – We will drive into the glacial Nant Ffrancon Pass & Ogwen Valley in the heart of the snowdonia national park, and a photo opportunity of one of the many lakes we will be visiting. Also learning some local history and tales about local welsh myths and legends along the way
• LLynau Mymbyr – Another photo opportunity, as we stop at llyn mymbyr in Capel curig, with Snowdonia now in view at the end of the lake
• Snowdonia viewpoint on the Nant gwynant pass – A spectacular viewpoint of the valley below and its lakes, and the towering Snowdonia mountain range in front of us
• Pen y Pass – We take the famous Pen y Pass road from the upper regions of the mountains to the lower summits and into the mountain village of Llanberis. This scenic drive you are likely to see rock climbers, mountain walkers and feel dwarfed by the towering valley slopes
• Lunch break at the National Slate museum – Here you can travel into the past of an industry and a way of life that has chiselled itself into the very being of this country. The Workshops and Buildings are designed as though quarrymen and engineers have just put down their tools and left the courtyard for home, while an array of Talks and Demonstrations including slate-splitting give you a real insight into the hardships of past quarry life.
• Dolbadarn castle & Llanberis – A few minutes walk up from the car park are worth the views alone. Built by the Welsh prince Llywelyn the Great during the early 13th century, at the base of the Llanberis Pass, and overlooking padarn lake. The castle was important to both militarily and as a symbol of Llywelyn’s power and authority.
• Llyn Padarn – We will stop at the lake side of Llyn Padarn. Here you can see in the backdrop the years of workings of the old slate quarrying. And next to the lake is a beautiful large sword sculpting of King Arthurs Excalibur.
• Caernarfon Castle – Take a walk round this world heritage site. After all these years Caernarfon’s immense strength remains undimmed. A brute of a fortress. History comes alive at Caernarfon in so many ways – along the lofty wall walks, beneath the twin-towered gatehouse, the walk town’s narrow and colorful streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront of the menai.
